Movie Buzz: Jennifer’s Body (2009)

July 14, 2009

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for 3 years, you’ve probably come across the name Diablo Cody, or at least heard about a brilliant feel-good movie called Juno.  Gems like Cody in the movie business are few and far between.  Her screenwriting debut won her the most prestigious award in her field, and this year, there’s no stopping her from winning more.  From teenage drama, she’s now trying her hands on shocking her audience with a dark and bloody thriller, also about teenagers.  Jennifer’s Body is the story of an evil high school cheerleader with a taste for human flesh.  The same forces behind the successful Juno made this movie happen, so we can expect some level of storytelling wit, plot direction, and impressive original soundtrack.  The movie also features some of the hottest stars today, including the foxy Megan Fox and the amazing Amanda Seyfried. This is a thriller that promises a treat for the eyes and more.

If you’re still wondering how Diablo Cody’s work hits and misses, watch her new TV production, United States of Tara, and you’ll see that she’s the real deal.

Movie Buzz: Where the Wild Things are (2009)

March 28, 2009

2002 was the year we last experienced a serving of Spike Jonze’s playful mind. The feature film he created was the multi-award-winning Adaptation, starring the amazing Nicholas Cage as Charlie Kaufman and Donald Kaufman. Since then, all we’ve seen of Spike Jonze’s works were video specials, mostly of skateboarding  and music.

Movie enthusiasts are blessed this year with the upcoming release of his latest film, an adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s story, Where the Wild Things are.

The pitch: Max is sent to bed without supper and imagines sailing away to the land of Wild Things, where he is made king.

March 13, 2009

Finally, another chance to see Alison Lohman in the big screen, a serious Justin Long (though where’s the HAHA in that), and what looks to be one hell of a Sam Raimi thriller.  Recipe for win?  We’ll see.

Movie Buzz: Inglourious Basterds (2009)

February 12, 2009

Frankly I’m not too fussed about Quentin Tarantino films.  After seeing a movie like Death Proof, one decides not to call oneself a fan of such filmmaker.

But to see Brad Pitt in a bloody movie, that’s another thing.  That hasn’t happened since what, Fight Club?

So bring on the blood and the Pitt!
